Mr Shadrack Rotich, the immediate former Bomet County Assembly Speaker has been sworn in as Bomet County Deputy Governor (DG) after his recent nomination by Governor Hillary Barchok.
The oath of office was on Wednesday administered by Kericho High Court Judge George Dullu assisted by Bomet Senior Resident Magistrate Kipkirui Kibelion during the celebration held at Bomet Green Stadium.
In the event attended by Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, Narok Deputy Governor Chepkirui Aruasa, Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones, Nakuru Woman Rep Lizah Chelule, County Assemblies Forum Chairman James Wahome, 30 County Assembly Speakers among other guests, the new DG vowed to ensure there is public participation in various development projects in the county.
"Public participation is a key ingredient in development and we will ensure that the residents are brought on board when prioritising projects to be funded," said Mr Rotich as quoted by the Nation.
The DG's appointment caught many unawares as there were several calls to have a female appointee.
However, Dr Barchok defended his move saying that it was well thought and Rotich deserved the position.
"We are running out of time, and picking Hon Shadrack Rotich was well thought, I wanted a person who understands how things run and not someone who will need fresh orientation," he said.
Barchok served as deputy governor under the late Dr Joyce Laboso.
