Deputy President Dr William Ruto has lashed out at critics questioning his movements around the country.
Speaking in Nyamira on Monday, the DP said that his work as the country's second-in-command entailed moving around the country, and not cooking tea.
He contended that the country would not move forward if leaders sat in posh offices in the capital, Nairobi.
"They are asking why the Deputy President is moving around the country. I am wondering what the work of the Deputy President is. I don't cook tea in an office. I am not a watchman. What work do they want the Deputy President to do, these people? Should I continue staying in the office? (Wanasema deputy president mbona ameenda hapa, ameenda pale. Mimi nashangaa kwani kazi ya deputy president ni gani. Mimi sipiki chai kwa ofisi. Mimi sio watchman. Wanataka deputy presudent afanye kazi gani, hawa watu? Niendelee kukaa ofisini?)" Ruto fired.
The DP has come under fire from critics for traversing around the country, saying that his visits are not informed by development but by 2022 politics, a charge that he has strongly rejected.
He said that he would continue moving around the country in a bid to ensure that the Big Four Agenda is on course and that the grassroots get development.
DP Ruto was joined by local leaders including South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro.
