Police in Nairobi have nabbed a suspected terrorist in Eastleigh, while allegedly on a scouting mission.
It's reported that the suspect, was carrying out surveillance on a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) air force airbase in the area.
The Counter-Terrorism and National Security Intelligence (CTNSIS) in an update on Monday described the suspect as a Canadian-Somali male.
"#BREAKING Terror Suspect Intercepted Conducting Surveillance on Airbase. A Male Somali-Canadian arrested in Eastleigh area of the Capital after he was intercepted conducting surveillance on KDF Air Force Base," it said in a tweet.
This comes only a day after Al-Shabab militants based in neighbouring Somalia launched an attack on the Manda Magogoni Naval Base, jointly run by Kenya and the United States.
The US Africa command said that the officers managed to repulse the attackers, killing four militants in the Sunday dawn attack by the Al-Qaida-affiliated organization.
In a statement, the command also acknowledged destruction of infrastructure and equipment at the base, with residents living around the area having been ordered out.
“Initial reports reflect damage to infrastructure and equipment. Accountability of personnel is underway," reads the report by US Army Major General William Gayler.
