By getting rid of the following risk factors, the probability of throat cancer can be reduced to some extent;

1. Quit smoking

Tobacco has been found to be the leading cause of throat cancer. People who don't smoke have the lowest risk of developing this type of cancer while people who have been smoking for a long time have the highest exposure. For this reason, do your throat big favour and quit smoking should you be a smoker. Alcohol should also be taken in moderation or completely phased out.

2. Choose a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables

Natural fruits and vegetables are good for your throat. They contain antioxidants that help fight cancer cells from proliferating in your throat. Usually, cancer is caused by oxidative damage within cells. Antioxidants counteract this process thereby reducing your risk of throat cancer.

3. Avoid HPV infection

Human Papilloma Virus(HPV) is not only linked to cervical cancer but also oesophagal cancer. You can protect yourself against HPV by limiting your sexual partners and using protection always. You can also vaccinate yourself against this virus. The vaccine is available for children and young women and men.
