Kavinya Mwangagi and his co-accused Solomon Mutava had confessed to participating in the killing.

The cook at Kwa Nyiri Restaurant in Mbeere said that he was picked up on the night the priest was killed and ordered into a car, which had Kyengo in the boot, still alive.

He told a packed courtroom at Milimani Law Courts that he was told to tie the priest's legs and hands with ropes, as the remaining killers stepped on his (Kyengo) neck.

"His hands were tied and at some point, I was asked to tie his feet and hands with ropes. He faced down and my colleague stepped on his neck," he told the court.

He added that they then proceeded to butcher him with pangas, which resonates with an affidavit filed in court by an investigating officer, one Corporal Julio Mukembei.

Mwangagi said that before being killed, his colleagues ordered the priest to give his bank number and M-Pesa details.

This, he added, was before Mutava transferred some money from his bank account to an unknown account.

"I heard my colleague ask about the priest's M-Pesa balance which he said was at Sh1,500. With a phone in his hand, I heard my friend ask for his bank account details which he was given and made a transaction," he added.

Presiding judge Justice Hellen Okwani ordered that he gives his confession at a police station in the presence of his family and a chief inspector.

The judge also allowed the prosecution four days to hold the suspect for further investigations.

Kyengo's body was found stuffed in a sack and buried in a shallow grave on October 16, after being reported missing on October 5.

The case will be mentioned on November 6.
