Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has announced that he will convene a special sitting on January 21 for Senators to discuss the impeachment of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
The Senate has missed the deadline for debating the matter after it was fronted to the house.
Section 33 (3) of the County Government Act highlights that the Senate Speaker and his Speaker of County Assembly are expected to convene a meeting seven days after they receive the notice of the decision.
The period has since elapsed after the County Assembly decided to impeach the governor from office.
The Kiambu County Assembly Members impeached the embattled governor on December 19, 2019, for what they said is an abuse of office and violation of Public Finance Management Act.
The governor is also facing charges of misappropriation of county funds.
The Senate is yet to give its verdict on the case even after it received communication from County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu.
Lusaka has confirmed receiving communication from the county assembly, adding that the matter will be discussed and resolved.
He also said that the county speaker has embarked on the collection of signatures from the Senators before the meeting can be held to address the matter.
“The leader of majority has written to me proposing January 21, 2020 for the special sitting. He is now collecting signatures from Senators to make the meeting a reality,” Mr Lusaka said, according to Daily Nation.
Waititu has since linked his woes to his political stand.
