The governor of Nakuru Lee Kinyanjui has weighed in on the upcoming Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) meeting to be held at the historic Afraha Stadium by the allies of the deputy president Dr William Ruto.
In a statement, the county boss said that his administration would facilitate the rally on the condition that it would not be used to divide Kenyans.
“A meeting of that magnitude requires adequate preparations including security and other logistics. We, therefore, expect the request will be made in good time to allow adequate preparations and any other logistical issue that may be required on our part,” Lee Kinyanjui's statement read in part as quoted by the People Daily.
The meeting will be held in parallel to another one that will be held in Kitui county by perceived allies of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
Ruto allies have come under blistering criticism for seeking to hold parallel rallies, which critics say are aimed at dividing the country and undermining the head of state Uhuru Kenyatta.
They have denied that charge, saying that their interest is pushing for a people-centred agenda and ensuring that their views are captured in the BBI report when the revised draft is compiled.
