Police in Nairobi are investigating two of their colleagues accused of extorting money from a government driver attached to former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich.
The two reportedly pounced on the driver at the Treasury Buildings on Nairobi on Monday, claiming to be investigating the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandals.
This happened the very same day when Rotich was arrested, detailed and arraigned in court over possible involvement in the very same scandal, reports the Standard.
The two officers reportedly demanded Sh300, 000 to release him, and later agreed to take the Sh200, 000 which he could raise, after which he says he reported the incident to the police.
Reporting the incident at the Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) Police Station, he said that they told him that they are attached to Kamkunji Police Station.
According to police sources, the police officers returned on Wednesday and nabbed a friend of the driver, and demanded another Sh100, 000 for the release, which he again reported.
He told the Standard that they arrested his friend over forgery claims, which saw him rush to the KICC station where he was given officers who managed to arrest one of the suspects.
The friend was rescued, while the remaining officer managed to escape from the police, with a matter that is now being investigated by city officers.
