Governor James Ongwae of Kisii seems to be enjoying this January after being tasked with two plum jobs within a week.
Firstly, Ongwae was elected as the deputy chairman of Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) when it had hosted a forum at Siaya Medical Training college last week. After his appointment he asserted that he looked forward to see that quality healthcare is provided to the locals.
LREB is headed by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya of Kakamega.
Secondly, Ongwae was on January 20, 2020 elected to chair Human Resources, Labour and Social Welfare Committee at the Council of Governors (CoG), an election that saw Governor Oparanya retain his chairmanship.
Speaking after his appointment, Ongwae thanked his colleagues for believing in him. He said his appointment indicated that he was up to the new task.
"I am grateful for the position and will strive to serve Kenyans for the next one year,” said the governor.
He added that it was a win for people of Kisii and Kenyans as all their interests will entirely be presented to the CoG.
“This week has been a great one for Kisii people because they now have someone who will champion their interest in high-level devolution forums,” he said as quoted.
