Mutua, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and their Makueni counterpart Kivutha Kibwana have lately been seen to engage the former vice president in a supremacy battle in the Ukambani region.

The outspoken county boss has also declared himself the new Ukambani kingpin, claiming that Kalonzo has since run out of ideas and is no longer needed.

However, speaking on Wednesday, Mutua noted that their varying political stands don't translate to enmity, adding that his respect and honour for the veteran leader remains intact.

He noted that he dislikes it when some of his supporters attack Kalonzo.

"I really respect Kalonzo and I don't think it's good to insult him. You can criticize him but I get angry and it pains me when some of my supporters attack Kalonzo," he said during an interview on Radio Citizen on Wednesday.

The governor, however, noted that Kalonzo must now exit the political scene, likening him to former world marathon champion Kipchoge Keino, whom he noted was a hero during his days but cannot set world records anymore.

He on the other hand likened himself to Eliud Kipchoge, saying that they cannot be compared in the political arena, as he is coming up with new and more effective ideologies.

"With all due respect, Kalonzo is like Kipchoge Keino while Mutua is Eliud (kwa heshima, Kalonzo ni kama Kipchoge Keino na Alfred ni Eliud) and that's not out of disrespect," he added.

Mutua who was elected in his first term on a Wiper Party ticket secured his re-election on his Maendeleo ChapChap Party ticket.
