Leaders supporting the initiative from Western Kenya on Sunday convened at Nzoia Guest Lodge to discuss the document ahead of Bukhungu rally next Saturday.

Mr Marende, who served as speaker from 2008-13, has been keeping low political profile since leaving office.

But his appearance could as well suggest his next political endeavours after many months of absence.

"The Who is Who is Western politics is here are the Nzoia Sugar Company Guest House for the BBI Consultative Forum. Former Speaker Hon. Kenneth Marende has also not been left behind. The plane is taxing off, no looking back," wrote ODM Director of Communication Philip Etale.

The former speaker is remembered for holding the country together during the fragile grand coalition government.

Deputy President William Ruto has since dismissed BBI forums as campaign scheme by Orange Democratic Movement party.

"Unity, inclusivity pretence and associated squander of public resources should stop. Unity? the opposition (NASA) is already dismembered/dead; now dividing Jubilee. Big 4 roll out the only way to go," Ruto tweeted on Sunday morning.
