In a tweet on Wednesday night, the DP strongly disagreed with a headline that appeared to drag his name in a land row.

"Murumbi land ownership row haunts Ruto," the Daily Nation headline read.

Dr Ruto disparaged the headline as an attempt by the newspaper that enjoys high circulation to make sales.

He claimed newspapers were growing fond of mentioning his name in their headlines because it was the only way that they could make profit.

"The now persistent, obviously sponsored FAKE NEWS by hired bankrupt media that finds it difficult to make a sale without the name Ruto. Bure kabisa. Riswa!" The DP tweeted.

The Daily Nation is not the first paper to be savaged by the country's second in command in his fake-news-fighting spree.

In recent weeks, the deputy president has been calling out publications he deems to be propagating fake news against him.

The Standard has also had its share of being called out after the paper painted a picture of divisions between the president and the DP, something that the deputy president was quick to reject.
