Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of communications Philip Etale has taken issue with Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo's campaign slogan in the Kibra parliamentary race.
Writing on Twitter on Sunday, Mr Etale contended that Owalo's 'Liwe Liwalo' slogan belonged to the past and not in today's politics.
He claimed it smacked of intimidation and therefore should not be used in any political campaign, not even in the politics of failed countries.
"Liwe Liwalo in English means Come what May. This is intimidation. It can’t be anyone’s campaign slogan. Not even in failed countries, " the tweet read.
Etale's tweet comes amid heightened political activity in Kibra constituency ahead of by-election slated for November.
Owalo, who is seen as a strong contender, was former aide of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga but the two fell out over claims of bungled nominations.
He has tried in the past to contest the Kibra seat but has not been successful as he has lost in the party nominations.
Mr Owalo resigned from the ODM party and joined Musalia Mudavadi's ANC party just days after the Kibra seat was declared vacant.
Former Harambee Stars footballer McDonald Mariga is also in the contest having won the governing Jubilee party's nomination exercise.
