Barcelona has named Quique Setien Solar as the new manager replacing the sacked Ernesto Valverde following reports by CNN that Valverde was facing uncertainty over his future at Nou Camp due to his playing style.

Ernesto sacking comes on the backdrop of Barcelona lose to Atletico Madrid in Spanish Super cup and, despite signing a contract extension on February, last year that should have seen him till the end of the season.

The 61years-old Quique Setien is a former Real Betis manager, having guided the team to record the based performance since 2005 and led them to the Copa Del Rey semi-final. He agreed to pen a two-and-half years contract with the Catalans, till 30th, June 2022.

Barcelona acknowledged their agreement with Valverde to terminate his contract as reported by the BBC sports.

"For his professionalism, his commitment, his dedication and his always positive treatment towards all that make up the Barca family," Read a statement by Barcelona.

It is believed that Valverde fell out of favour with the Catalans following a string of poor defeats at hands of Liverpool and Roma in the champions league.

The 55 years-old leaves the club on top of La Liga; having guided them to 2 successive La Liga titles and Copa Del Rey since taking over in 2017. 

Setien has previously handled lower- league sides and also managed Las Palmas before moving to Real Betis where he established himself till his departure in May. In addition, he had a short stint with the Equatorial Guinea national team, lasting only three months in 2006.

Pundits rate Setien as a devout follower of Cruyffian football Aka, Barcelona's Tik Taka style of play according to The Guardian.
