Former Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga has refuted the claims that his ruling in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta after the 2013 election was malicious.
Speaking to the Star, the retired judge said that neither Jubilee Party nor CORD influenced his decision.
"Rumour had it that I had a gun to my head when I wrote the short decision because we had no time to immediately give the reasons for our decision. I have said it before and I will say it again to you. I was not bribed,” Mutunga said.
The former CJ said that there was a politician who claimed that he knew the bank account where the bribe money was channeled.
The politicians who are mainly aligned to CORD accused the Judiciary of messing up with their 900-page evidence, a claim which Mutunga dismissed.
Mutunga added that this matter will be exploited more in his upcoming memoir, Muddy Mango, set to be released in June.
He affirmed that he does not regret the decision made by the Supreme Court.
"Wrongly or rightly, the apex court decided that the deadlines were constitutional and not technical," he said.
He stated that the ruling was made after serious analysis of public records and a copy of the petition given to the university of Nairobi Law School for further redress.
"We handed over the entire record of the petition to the Law School in the University of Nairobi for reading, critiquing and reflecting on the decision. We were accused of being bribed to reach that verdict," Mutunga said.
Mutunga told off those saying that the 2013 election petition was the legacy of his judicial career. He added that he wrote scholarly articles, lectured in several universities globally and ruled on many cases.
He clarified that the decision of 2013 was not his but was reached by six other judges of the highest court.
