Speaking on Saturday in an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche, the former Subukia lawmaker noted that though there are many types of the disease, it is narrowing down into two, cancer of the poor and that of the rich.

He accused the government of driving this narrative by only focusing on the rich and giving all sorts of promises when they die, but doing nothing to save the poor suffering Kenyans.

"Kuna kansa ya maskini na ile ya viongozi na matajiri. Ya matajiri na viongozi ndiyo inayozingatiwa lakini si ya masikini. (There is the cancer of the poor and that of the rich and leaders. That of the rich and leaders is the one being concentrated on while that of the poor is not)," Koingi said.

The former Assistant Cabinet Minister further bashed the media for, just like the state, only focusing on the notable Kenyans who succumb to cancer.

He termed it worrying that nobody cares that many Kenyans succumb to cancer before a notable person dies.

"Anapokufa tajiri mmoja wanakuwa wamekufa wananchi kama kumi lakini vifo hivi havizingatiwi na vyombo vya habari (before one rich person dies about ten Kenyans have died, but the media doesn't focus on these deaths)," the former MP lamented

The remarks came only hours after the burial of former Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso and cremation of Kibra MP Ken Okoth, both of whom succumbed to cancer in the last one week.
