Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has thrown his weight behind the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report's suggestion on the formation of the cabinet.
The document which was on Tuesday presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta seeks to allow the president to pick Cabinet Ministers from both the parliament and outside.
Speaking later at night, the lawmaker appeared to back the proposal, saying that the nation will need a number of ministers picked from among parliamentarians for accountability purposes.
He added that at the same time, there might be needed some experts from outside, whose expert opinion might be necessary for running the government.
"For accountability, we need Cabinet Ministers who are members of Parliament. Additionally, we may want expert opinion from technocrats. I think having a mixed cabinet is a good thing," he said.
Amollo, one of the experts who participated in the drafting of the current constitution (2010), said that the report contains exactly what he wanted to see on cabinet formation.
"I am personally inclined to a parliamentary system or a hybrid that includes a parliamentary system," he added.
The 14-member taskforce also proposed the formation of an independent body to preside over the health sector, which is currently a devolved function.
The president is on Wednesday expected to officially open the report to the public for scrutiny at the Bomas of Kenya.
