President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee for ambassador to South Korea, Mwende Mwinzi is yet to assume office after parliament raised concern over her dual citizenship.
On Sunday, Mwende came forth to explain why she decided to seek legal redress over the nomination to the position.
She has now accused Members of Parliament of being biased. She claims that the MPs have taken advantage of the fact that she was not born in Kenya to continue waging war against her for no good reason.
She has also alluded that MPs have misinterpreted the law on citizenship, hence leaving her in a state of dilemma as far as assuming office is concerned.
Mwende claimed that she is a good example of those Kenyans who are missing the opportunities because of the choices their parents made, adding that time has come for a change on the same.
“This is not about me, although it does affect me. This is about the many Kenyans who ought to be mainstreamed into Kenya’s development and leadership. It cannot be that for all that we do for our country, and all that it does for us, we suddenly become strangers in times like these,” she told Sunday Standard.
Parliament has refused to approve her nomination after she refused to renounce American citizen.
She decided to take the battle to the courts but parliament has not responded as she expected.
Her nomination now hangs in balance unless she bows to pressure to renounce the dual citizenship.
