In a tweet on Wednesday, the graft-fighting body said that it had summoned Professor Muchai Muchiri over corruption.

According to the tweet, the VC recorded a statement at the law enforcement agency's regional office in Nyeri County.

"The Commission has summoned Karatina University Vice-Chancellor- Prof. Muchai Muchiri to shed light on a number of corruption-related matters. He's currently recording a statement at our Nyeri Regional Office, " the EACC posted on Twitter.

The EACC tweet did not shed light on the nuts and bolts of the corruption-related matters it had called the vice-chancellor to record a statement on.

This comes as corruption in institutions of higher learning continues to be an ongoing concern.

Last year, the Kenyan public was shocked after reports of the embezzlement of funds at the Masaai Mara University was reported in the media, implicating the institution's vice-chancellor.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) took up the matter and a probe into the corruption scandal at the Massai Mara University is ongoing.

The scandal was brought to the attention of the public thanks to a whistle-blower working in the institution as an accountant.
