A Court in Siaya has ordered that a prime suspect in the murder of Siaya-based journalist Eric Oloo be detained in police custody.
This is after detectives investigating the matter asked Siaya Principal Magistrate James On'gondo to detain Chief Inspector of Police Sabina Kerubo.
Chief inspector Tobias Akumu asked magistrate On’gondo to grant them more time to conclude their investigations.
Akumu further said that they intend to hand over the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
Akumu said they will hand over the file on Tuesday with their recommendations and await for further directions.
“We plan to have the file presented to the State counsel on Tuesday and await further directions from them. If the State counsel, upon receiving the file and after going through our recommendations directs that we charge her alongside the other two suspects already in police custody, then we will do so,” he said as quoted by Nation.
The court granted the request and directed that Kerubo be detained at Siaya Police Station for 14 days pending completion of investigations.
The police officer was arrested after the body of the journalist was found in her house on November 21 in Ugunja town.
A post-mortem report revealed that the journalist died due to injuries he received after being hit with a blunt object on the abdomen and head.
Two brothers, Victor Ogola Luta and Franklin Joel Luta, have been arrested and arraigned in court over the murder.
