Thirdway Alliance Party did not seek opinions of Kenyans in their push for a constitutional change, Wiper Party has said.
According to the former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka-led party, it will not support the proposals in the Punguza Mizigo Bill.
The party has now urged county assemblies to reject the proposals once they are presented to them for approval.
Kalonzo’s camp claims the proposals are not only malicious but also retrogressive.
“The WDM-K opposes the Punguza Mizigo bill for lack of public participation and urges all county assemblies to exercise caution and ensure that there is public participation before debate and voting,” said Musyoka as quoted by Daily Nation.
He also said that the Bill will deprive women, children as well as those living with disabilities their rights as far as representation is concerned.
Kalonzo also said that the fact that the proposals want to reduce 290 constituencies and instead use the 47 counties as constituencies does not make sense at all.
Thirdway Alliance Party Ekuru Aukot has been asking county assemblies and various political parties to back his push for a referendum.
He believes the Punguza Mizigo proposals will enable the people to benefit from devolution.
