Karanja Kibicho, the interior Principal Secretary (PS) has cleared the air on rumours that he is eyeing Kirinyaga governorship in 2022.
Speaking at Kang'aru village, Mwea Constituency on Monday, Dr Kibicho admitted that he had been approached by local leaders to contest but he turned down their offer citing his busy role at the Interior Ministry.
"When in social gatherings in my village with my friends, some opinion leaders approach and inform me that I'm doing a good job and that I'm better-placed to lead the region. [But] I don't want any political seat," he said.
The PS said that he is focusing on uplifting the lives of the locals.
"I meet leaders every month because as a person who comes from this area, I would like to see residents well served and their standards of living uplifted. This is not politicking at all," he added.
He pointed fingers at politicians who failing the electorate.
He said that there are residents who visit his rural home for assistance yet there are politicians who were chosen to initiate projects that can better the lives of the locals.
The PS talked of a mother who had travelled to Embu Referral Hospital for delivery she lost the baby while on the queue.
"When the woman informed me of what had happened to her baby, I sympathised with her. When I get involved in the development, some people think I'm eyeing the county's leadership. It is so sad," he said.
He attributed this case to the failure of elected leaders who instead of initiating development are busy politicking.
He vowed to continue pushing for development projects despite facing criticism.
