Blogger Dennis Itumbi now claims that his life is in danger over the alleged plot to assassinate Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
According to K24, Mr Itumbi told a court that he was under pressure from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to say that there was no plot to assassinate the DP and that the claims were based on a bogus letter.
“I fear for my life because the DCI and the PS are very desperate to have my help in saying there is no plot for [Ruto’s] assassination, and or that it is based on an empty fake letter. I do not know and I am unable to help in that narrative for which I am being persecuted," Mr Itumbi said.
Itumbi was arraigned in court on Thursday after being arrested in Nairobi by sleuths from the DCI.
The blogger's contention that his life is in danger adds another layer to the assassination plot saga.
Media reports indicate that he was arrested over links to the letter said to have carried the assassination claims.
The claims of the assassination plot have gripped the country, raising political temperatures with the DP's allies calling for those alleged to be behind the plot to be investigated.
