Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday named his deputy after almost two years since the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January 2018.
The first-term governor, who is facing graft charges, decided to unveil one Anne Kananu Mwenda as his nominee for the vacant post.
Sonko has submitted the name of the nominee to the County Assembly for vetting despite the Director of Public Prosecution Nordin Haji dismissing the same.
Who is this Anne Kananu Mwenda?
Well, Anne Kananu Mwenda is the current Chief Officer in the docket of Disaster Management and Coordination at the county government of Nairobi.
She has served in this capacity for a period of two years after Sonko named her in his team as he sought to deliver on the promises he made to the residents of Nairobi.
Anne Kananu Mwenda, who studied at Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1999, was a worker at the Kenya Airports Authority. At KPA she served in the office of quality assurance and control.
Her Curriculum Vitae (CV) indicates that she served in this capacity for thirteen years before she decided to quit and try something else. She studied at Dedan Kimathi University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminology and Security Management.
Anne Kananu Mwenda is now expected to assume the duties of the governor on a temporary basis if the county assembly will approve her nomination.
Sonko has since appealed to the MCAs to okay the nomination as he seeks to clear his name with the anti-graft agencies.
The governor has also said he will disobey the bail terms he was given by the court after the naming of the Deputy Governor.
