Mercy Anyango (29) and her children are currently recuperating at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital(JOOTRH) in Kisumu, after the incident that happened in Awasi, within Nyando Sub County.

Kisumu County Police Comamnder Renson Romodol on Wednesday said that once out, the woman will be taken to court to face the law for trying to murder her children and herself.

“We are waiting for her to get relief before police can take over the matter. She may have to face charges of attempted murder of the children and attempted suicide,” he said.

Anyango has since admitted trying to kill her children, and on Wednesday told the media that she did it due to inability to fend for them, after separating with her husband.

She said that after the separation, the man did not want her anyway near his village in Kosele, Homa Bay County, hence her decision to move to Awasi in Kisumu county.

"I could not fend for my children, and my husband had also declined to support them. So I wanted to have some rest,” she said.

JOOTRH CEO Peter Okoth on Wednesday said that the mother and three of her children might be discharged in the next three days.

The fourth child, he said, is not in a very stable condition but is under the watch of medics.
