Kenyans on Social Media have expressed mixed reactions on President Uhuru Kenyatta's remarks over conflict of interest in reference to elected leaders involving themselves in matters that conflict with the positions they hold.
Expressing their reactions on Twitter via the #conflictofinterest, the netizens differed in opinion on the matter as some supported the sentiments by President Uhuru while others opposed.
A section of the KOT who supported the remarks claimed that it was high time state officials were barred from using public resources for personal gain.
They added that the cases in which the legislators are involved in do not benefit the citizens who elected them.
A group of the KOT, on the other hand, raised questions on the timing of the remarks.
They asked the motive behind the President raising the issue shortly after Elgeyo-Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Makueni counterpart Mutula Kilonzo had represented Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in court.
The netizens further argued that legislators have been involved in court cases as lawyers for a long time but no one had raised concern on the matter.
On Thursday during the Jamhuri Day Celebrations, President Uhuru pointed out that it was not fair for legislators to represent suspects in court due to conflict of interest.
