The incident was confirmed by Yatta Deputy sub-county police commander Joseph Guthari.

He said that the woman had accompanied a man who booked the room at Texas tavern and grill restaurant at around 4 pm on Wednesday.

"He came back at around 11 pm accompanied by the woman, went to the room and locked," said Gathagu.

He said that on Thursday morning at around 10 am a cleaner discovered the woman lying lifeless on the bed.

"The cleaning woman called with no answer, the door wasn't locked so she went in and found the woman dead in bed, half-naked," he said.

The man who had booked the room was nowhere to be found.

He confirmed that investigations into the incident have already begun.

The body was taken to Mbaku funeral home for presentation awaiting postmortem.

Yatta sub county bar owners Chairman Paul Mwanzia Muli urged bar owners to record details of their clients seeking to rent rooms.

"The incident is very sad and that is why I insist on bar owners to take down details of their clients. Know who rented the room so that in case something happens it will be easy to trace them," he said.
