After several months of a never-ending battle for the control of Jubilee Party, the President Uhuru Kenyatta-Kenyatta-led outfit is set to hold a decisive election in March, which may seal the fate of UhuRuto alliance.
President Kenyatta's presidential term ends in 2022. His political future remains a mystery amid claims that he could go for another position.
Deputy President William Ruto, on the other hand, has set his eyes on the presidency. As such, the control of the Jubilee Party ahead of 2022 is the next battle frontier.
The DP's allies led by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, have vowed to take over control of the party during the March election.
Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, who is being fronted by the pro-Ruto camp for chairperson position, recently confirmed his desire to fully control party decisions.
Politicians allied to the President, led by Kiamba MP Paul Koinange, have dared those plotting to send Secretary-General Raphael Tuju packing to be very careful, asking them to quit the party if they are not happy. So, the next two months will be interesting.
A win for politicians backing Dr Ruto will no doubt deal a blow to the President whose political moves continue to leave many speculating. With both the President and the DP's camps keen to control the giant party ahead of 2022, one camp will definitely have to surrender.
This scenario will no doubt lead to the split of the party. The UhuRuto alliance will technically be dead after that March poll. As for the future of the President as Jubilee Party leader, that will be the turning point in outfit's full-blown political war.
