Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s lawyer Cecil Miller has insisted that his client was assaulted during his arrest on Friday.
In his submission at the Milimani Law Courts on Monday, Miller said that claims that the governor assaulted the police are untrue.
He insisted that the manner in which the county boss was arrested and presented to the DCI headquarters is unfair and unlawfully.
“On assaulting the police, Sonko is actually the one who was assaulted. We understand there is a charge sheet awaiting him in Voi. We are also applying that he is given bond terms to cover that matter so he can present himself instead of being re-arrested after bail is granted in this court…” he said.
He also said that the county boss deserves bail to seek medical attention. He said that his health condition has deteriorated.
“I have with me a medical report by Dr Esther Nafula Wekesa…which states that Sonko should be granted bail to seek medical attention as he has developed chest complications with possible rib fractures… EACC’s doctor compliments this report…” he said in part.
The governor was arrested on Friday in Voi. He is facing charges of misappropriating Sh357 million.
