An investigation has found that Saudi Arabia hacked the mobile phone of Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man, the Washington Post has reported.

The investigation conducted by the United Nations (UN) was able to establish that the business magnate was able to receive a message from an account associated with the Mohamed Bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince.

Bezos has long claimed that he was the victim of a cyber-attack.

He was the target of blistering criticism from Saudi trolls after the news of the brutal killing of renowned journalist and columnist tricked out.

His phone, according to a UN special rapporteur, was infected by malware thanks to the message that he received from the Saudi crown prince.

News of the brazen hack was first reported by the Guardian.

“He probably believed that if he got something on Bezos it could shape coverage of Saudi Arabia in the Post, " Andrew Miller, a Middle East expert, said of the crown prince as quoted by the Guardian.

Bezos suspected that his mobile phone had been hit after details of his extra-marital affairs were published in an American tabloid publication, the National Enquirer.

Experts on cyber-attacks took the Amazon billionaire's phone for analysis and were able to establish that it had been infected by malware.

On the basis of the findings, the United Nations could ask Saudi Arabia to give a formal explanation.
