Director of Communications in the office of the Deputy President Emmanuel Talam has launched a scathing attack on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga over the 2022 succession politics.
Talam hit out at Raila for allegedly bashing Deputy President William Ruto over his consistency in attending charity events across the country.
"Raila is accusing DP Ruto of using harambee to "bribe " voters. Someone should tell him to stop using funerals to bewitch voters," he said in a tweet on Sunday.
Talam claimed the ODM boss made the remarks when he attended the burial of Mama Eva Donde in Gem Constituency in Siaya County on Saturday.
Eva was Raila's aunt and mother to former area Member of Parliament Joe Donde.
Talam's attack came barely hours after Odinga's allies put Daily Nation on the spot for what they termed as misreporting of the former Prime Minister's remarks during the burial.
In its headline on Sunday, 'Race is on: Raila to face Ruto in 2022', the publication alleged the ODM boss gave the 'clearest indication' that he will run for the top seat.
"This is Ridiculous! I Was at The Funeral Of Mama Eva Donde! Rt Hon Odinga DID NOT Say any such thing! What’s Nation Seeking To Achieve?" said Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo.
"I saw Daily Nation Headline last night and knew something was not adding up, those rare moments of twisted githeri journalism. Not that I don't do githeri, actually nyoyo as it is known in Dholuo, is my favourite meal. I was with Hon. Raila Odinga yesterday- he didn't talk abt 2022," tweeted Silas Jakakimba, who is Odinga's aide.
