The BBI taskforce joint secretary Paul Mwangi on Thursday informed the media that he was not aware of the extension.

He, however, added that Kenyans should wait for a gazette notice which might be released on Friday, so as to know the future of the taskforce.

“The best thing to do is to wait for the Gazette Notice. I believe it might be out tomorrow (today).  It will spell out the Terms of References and from there we can inform Kenyans on the next step,” he stated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta made the announcement during the Jamuhuri Day celebrations after meeting with opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The announcement sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans with most of them taking to social media to express their opinion.

The 14-member task force which is led by Yusuf Haji is expected to take charge of the second phase of the BBI report. The report which was launched on November 27, has become the epicentre of politics in the country.

Some of the leaders have called for public participation in the report which is believed to shape politics and leadership in the country.
