A man is being held at Nyatieko Police Station after he was caught on Sunday night vandalising a Kenya Power electric pole.
This happened at Nyakiogiro village at Kitutu Chache South in Kisii.
The suspect was pounced on by people who were coming from work. He was found snipping the power cables.
They alerted other residents who called the area chief Enoch Nyakagwa who arrived at the scene and called the police.
Speaking on Monday in Nyakiogoro, the chief said that the area had been experiencing a series of blackouts and increased theft of power meters.
"The man was arrested after he was caught on an electric pole cutting the electric wires by people who were coming from their jobs that night. We called the police who arrested him. He is at the police station and he will be arraigned in court for stealing public property. This has been the cause of blackouts in the area. They also steal electric meters almost daily. Let him be charged and punished to serve as an example," the chief said according to Egesa FM.
"Let the parents advice their children to avoid finding themselves in the wrong side of the law," the chief added.
