Jeremy Corbyn, who is the leader of the opposition party, told members of the press that his condition for supporting an early election had been met following the European Union's decisions to grant Britain an extension for the Brexit negotiations.

He said that the party was ready to launch its campaign for what he described as real change.

"I have consistently said that we are ready for an election and our support is subject to a no-deal Brexit being off the table, " Mr Corbyn said.

"We have now heard from the EU that the extension of Article 50 to 31 January has been confirmed, so for the next three months, our condition of taking no-deal off the table has now been met. We will now launch the most ambitious and radical campaign for real change our country has ever seen, " he added.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had been pushing for the Labour Party to agree to an early election but the leadership party asked him to get off the table the no-deal Brexit first.

The Labour Party had abstained on Monday from voting on a motion brought to the House by the Prime Minister calling for an early election.
