The Luo-Nyanza region has for over 55 years since independence remained a bedrock of members of the Odinga political family.
It is currently the backyard of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who has been in charge since the death of his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga in 1994.
Here are the reasons why Raika has remained in charge and might remain at the helm until he personally excuses himself.
1. Lack of an option
While others might argue that Raila is among the best leaders in the country, judging by his efforts towards the realization of second liberation and democracy, his bedrock also lacks an option.
For instance, there is no other person who has tried to wrestle the slot from him, with those who even dare to question him ending up facing the wrath of his allies and the very same voters.
This has led to fear among politicians who might be having better ideologies than him. They find it better to serve under him and be on the safe side rather than coming out against him and ending up in the political cold.
Raila lacks competition, which means he can only record one result, a win.
2. A feeling that he is entitled to the position
The Oginga family has been basking in praises and honour not only in Luo Nyanza but the entire nation, thanks to Raila's father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's contribution towards independence.
Since Jaramogi never realized his presidential dream, the region considers Raila, who has grown to the Prime Minister position at some point, as the man who can deliver the trophy.
This makes it better to rally behind him wholly than back other persons who will be starting their campaigns from scratch, and who could take longer to get to his current position.
As a man who has suffered for the country, including enduring years of imprisonment for the sake of Kenyans, it appears that backing his ideologies is the best reward he can be given.
3. Achievements
It will be even harder stealing the Nyanza community from Raila, considering that he has taken credit for some of the achievements being witnessed in the region currently.
For instance, Kisumu county has been boasting of a number of development achievements, the Kisumu Port included, which is being associated with Raila's truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This makes it better to remain behind him now that he is closer to the government and benefit more than abandon him for other people.
It is also worth noting that most of the elected leaders in the region are there courtesy of his intervention, further reducing chances of anyone standing up against him.
