Residents of Nyamariba village in Marani, Kisii County were left in shock on Wednesday evening after a body of a woman who went missing a week ago was found dumped in a pit latrine.
The decomposing body of Jesca Moraa was discovered in a pit latrine by Nyumba Kumi officials with the help of police officers.
Kisii Assistant Police Commander Caleb Matoke confirmed the incident saying Moraa went missing after a heated quarrel with her husband Morara Oroba.
"The couple had a domestic dispute and according to neighbours, the two quarrelled a week ago before the woman went missing. We suspect that after the quarrel, the husband killed the woman and dumped her body inside a pit latrine," said Matoke.
Matoke opined the husband is at large after residents threatened to attack him following the disappearance of his wife.
"A smell emanating from the pit latrine led Nyumba Kumi officials who have been searching for the woman to discover the body. Police officers from Marani arrived at the scene and the body was retrieved," he stated.
Her body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue and as the manhunt for the husband intensifies.
