Kenyans on social media have clashed with their Nigerian counterparts over the Lupita Nyong'o's role in an upcoming movie.
This is after Warner Media announced on Friday through a tweet that it was working on a 10-episode series dubbed 'Americanah' which is based on Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel.
"HBO Max orders limited series 'Americanah' based on Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s best-selling novel of the same name. The 10-episode series will star @Lupita_Nyongo with the pilot written by showrunner," read the tweet.
According to a section of the Nigerian netizens, the role should have been given to a Nigerian actor.
Some even went ahead to request for the producers to rethink their decision and change the character that has been assigned to Lupita.
Kenyans on Twitter nonetheless counter-argued that Lupita was not just a Kenyan actress but an international one.
They pointed out that Lupita earned the role as a result of being good at what she does and not because she was a Kenyan.
