In a tweet on Thursday, the CS expressed her strong condemnation for the attack, which she described as heinous.

She conveyed her condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in the attack, saying that Kenya was behind them.

"Kenya condemns in the strongest terms the heinous terrorist attack that has led to the death of 73 soldiers and left scores injured in Niger, " her tweet read.

"We condole with you and the families that have lost their loved ones, wish quick recovery to the injured and stand with you in your unwavering resolve to deal with the scourge of terrorism, " she continued.

Niger has endured years of terrorist attacks staged by groups said to be affiliated to the Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State groups.

The West African country is in the throes of an insurgency that experts say is fast worsening.

The terror attack occurred in Inates, not far from Niger's border with neighbouring Mali, another country also grappling with terrorism.
