Just days after media highlighted her plight, 13-year-old Elizabeth Wangari from Nakuru will now be able to join high school courtesy of Bahati NG-CDF.
Last week, media highlighted the story of how the little girl’s dream of joining Form One seemed to be dying due to the poor status that the family was in with the single mother struggling to make ends meet.
Her mother who depends on casual jobs mostly washing clothes in Mawanga estate was unable to meet the requirements and fees at Karima Girls'.
In what is now a dream come true, the young girl will now be joining Karima Girls’ High School as from next week after Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri intervened.
Through Bahati NG-CDF, Wangari’s full one-year fee has been paid.
Rosemary Wangui, her mother who has been given a muddy house to live in Mawanga had earlier in December told journalists that she had tried to raise a little money to see her first born join the renowned high school but she couldn’t manage even to raise funds worth buying school uniforms for her daughter.
This writer caught up with them at the Bahati NG-CDF office in Bahati during the handing over of the cheque and both the mother and the daughter could not hide their joy.
“I am very grateful that my daughter will now join High school. I must commend Bahati NG-CD and MP Ngunjiri,” said Wangui.
Similar sentiments were echoed by the young Wangari who says she will now work hard once she joins her dream school.
Wangari, a former candidate at Nakuru Workers Primary school scored 382 marks and was invited to join Karima Girls High school. She dreams of becoming a medic.
“My dream to be a medic will now come true," she stated happily.
Wangari is among 124 students who have benefited from the first batch of the Bahati-NG-CDF bursary for bright but needy students to a tune of Sh3.5 million.
In 2018/2019 financial year, 32 students were fully sponsored while in 2019/2020 financial year, 27 students will benefit with full sponsorship under the Bahati NG-CDF bursary for needy but bright students.
Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has urged those who get the opportunity to make good use of such in transforming the society.
He stated that matters education cannot be politicised urging parents in Bahati Sub-County to help in identifying needy students so that they can be assisted.
“It’s about ensuring the bright but needy students in our society get the best and we shall do all we can as leaders," the MP stated.
