The Senate Health Committee has put Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago on the spot over poor health sector.
The senate watchdog committee on Wednesday revealed its plans to summon the second time county boss to explain the reasons behind the ailing of the health sector since he was re-elected into office.
The committee, which is chaired by Michael Mbito (Trans Nzoia), questioned the governor’s commitment to transform the lives of the residents of the region. The team made a two-day tour across Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties before coming up with the recommendations.
During their tour across the county, the senators received hostile reception after locals confronted them while accusing them of sleeping on their jobs at the expense of the taxpayers. The team comprised of Mbito, John Kinyua (Laikipia) and Falhada Iman (nominated).
The senators confirmed that they intend to grill the governor over the matter after the residents from the county decried poor health service delivery yet there is a government in place.
“We will take the governor to task and ask what his role is. We have reports that there is no chief officer for health and the system is breaking down,” Mbito said, as quoted by Standard.
They also asked the governor to prepare himself with the facts after it emerged that the county government cannot account for the millions it has been receiving from the National Treasury.
