Political analyst Gabriel Muthama has questioned how Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was cleared to contest for the position with the criminal record.
Speaking during an interview with K24 on Wednesday, Muthama said that the governor has proven to be incompetent yet he was given a green light to contest for the seat.
Muthama wondered how Sonko was cleared by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Jubilee and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to run for office despite his dark past.
“How did Sonko pass EACC, KRA, Jubilee and get cleared to run for office? We also have to question the people for voting him in,” he said.
Muthama said that it is evident that all is not well in Nairobi. He insisted that Nairobi needs better leadership than Sonko.
He argued that the county government officials and other persons cannot feel free to discuss anything with the governor because he is bound to record the conversation. Muthama further said that the governor cannot walk away with the graft claims against him.
“We have a problem in Nairobi county, look at the cabinet there are CECs position that have not been filled and also you can't talk to the governor without the fear of being recorded,” he added.
