Deputy President William Ruto dismissed claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta was eyeing to remain in a political sea beyond 2022.
Speaking during the funeral of Martha Kirigo who is the mother of Mathira legislator, Rigathi Gachagua and the first Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua, Ruto termed those spreading the claims as political merchants.
“It is brokers and political merchants who are peddling that rumour across the country,” he said, according to the Star.
The DP pointed fingers at those claiming to change the constitution for personal gain saying that it was impossible.
"The Constitution was for all Kenyans, and as such, any changes made in it would be informed by their needs," he asserted.
He pointed out that the President has a good record track that cannot be spoiled by constitutional changes.
He also warned those who poke their noses in Jubilee Party affairs to stop and concentrate on their party issues.
DP Ruto affirmed that the government will continue with development projects and uniting the people of Kenya.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria who was among the over 80 legislators who had attended the burial.
Kuria praised President Uhuru as a gentleman with no big appetite for power, hence, will be retiring in 2022.
"Ignore those 'drunkards' claiming that the President wants to extend his tenure. Unless he talks to himself, do not take any word from them,” Kuria said as quoted by Star.
