The National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has said that he is eager to receive the conflict of interest Bill from the Attorney General's office.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Sunday Nation, Duale said that conflict of interest remains one of the biggest monsters in this nation. He noted that he has been seeing Members of Parliament and other leaders in government representing suspects in courts of law since his childhood.
The Garissa Town MP said that it's about time for the Bill to be implemented because it will change this nation in many ways.
"Conflict of interest is a monster. I am shocked that it’s coming now. Since I joined Parliament in 2007, MPs have been representing persons and institutions in court," he said.
Duale cautioned that the conflict of interest bill will not only affect legislators who are lawyers. But it will affect persons in different sectors once it is passed by the house.
"But let me be clear that conflict of interest is not limited to MPs who are lawyers. All MPs have career and business backgrounds, which they established over the years before coming to Parliament, and are therefore conflicted in one way or the other. The same applies to state officers within the Executive and Judiciary," he added.
