In a tweet on Tuesday, hours after being released, Alai stated that police officers must be respected whether dead or alive.

“We won’t beg and we won’t hide. Our men and women in uniform will have to be treated with dignity whether dead or ALIVE. Demanding this is not demanding too much but just showing that we are human and we appreciate them. Let’s TERRORIZE the oppressors,” he said in a tweet

Alai was arrested on June 18th for allegedly circulating pictures of police officers who were killed in an IED attack in Wajir, which the police termed as an act of supporting terrorism in the country.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi on Tuesday, the blogger was charged with supporting Somali-based Al Shabaab and disclosure of information against the law.

He denied the two charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh300, 000 or Sh500, 000 bond after staying in police custody for 14 days.

His case will be heard on August 8.
