Residents of Ikonge in Nyamira county are mourning the death of a man who died after he was swept away by flooding rain waters.
It is alleged that the deceased Emmanuel Ombaso was returning home after a drinking spree when he met his death on Wednesday.
Nyamira county commissioner Amos Mariba said the deceased was crossing the road while drink when he miscalculated his moves and fell into a ditch.
"The late was drunk when he tried to cross a terrace where flooding rain waters was running. He fell in the water and was swept away. He died before members of the public could rescue him," Mariba said as reported by Egesa Fm.
The commissioner said the deceased head was trapped in a culvert an indication that he died due to suffocation because he could not breath while his head was in the water.
Mariba has pleaded with residents to be cautious enough during this season the region is receiving heavy rains.
"The body of Ombaso was moved to Nyamira county hospital morgue for preservation waiting for burial. I urge residents to ensure their own safety to curb unnecessary deaths during this rainy season," he added.
