Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has claimed that the Deputy President Dr William Ruto is trying to assert his authority Nairobi.
Speaking on the Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) show aired on Royal Media Services-owned Citizen Television, the outspoken ODM legislator rejected the notion that the Kibra by-election was all about veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
"This is not about Baba, this is about yellow, it’s about yellow trying to assert its presence in Nairobi…” she said.
There had been speculation that the decision to field former footballer McDonald Mariga was to challenge Raila Odinga's political influence in Kibra which is considered a turf of the ODM party.
According to Millie, the Luos, Luhyas and Kikuyus have long controlled the Nairobi politics, and the Kalenjins were trying to assert themselves.
She pointed to the election of Langata legislator Nixon Korir who was elected in the 2017 election.
The Suba North MP went on to contend that after fielding a candidate in Kibra, the 'yellow' faction of the Jubilee party would field candidates in other constituencies in a bid to establish a foothold.
McDonald Mariga was said to be Deputy President's Dr William Ruto's project, a claim that the veteran footballer has strongly rubbished, saying that he is no one's project.
