The warrant of arrest is the latest twist in the gripping legal saga.

A family member described the warrant of arrest as pathetic.

"Last time Carlos Ghosn announced a press conference and got re-arrested. This time, the day before he is announced to speak out freely for the first time, they issued an arrest warrant for his wife Carole Ghosn," the family member said as quoted by the BBC.

Japanese authorities say that Carole Ghosn gave false testimony in April last year.

She is in Lebanon with his husband who was smuggled out of Japan in a musical instrument case.

Authorities are still trying to figure out how her husband was able to fly to Lebanon.

Carlos Ghosn faces charges of financial wrongdoing back in Japan, charges that he has strongly rejected.

The Japanese Justice minister told members of the press that the former Nissan boss had employed illegal methods to get out of Japan.

Nissan said that it would continue to hold Ghosn accountable in spite of his flight.

“Ghosn’s flight will not affect Nissan’s basic policy of holding him responsible for the serious misconduct uncovered by the internal investigation,” it said as quoted by the New York Times.

“The company will continue to take appropriate legal action to hold Ghosn accountable for the harm that his misconduct has caused to Nissan, " it added.
