Ngirici said that initiative was informed by what is good for the Kenyan people as it would reduce the burden on the shoulders of the taxpayer.

"I fully support the Punguza Mzigo initiative by one Dr. Ekuru Aukot because that's what everyone out there wants and the will of the people is the sovereign authority, " she wrote on Facebook.

"We don't need a referendum to create more positions for a few individuals in a quid pro quo arrangement but to check on the excesses as a springboard to catapult and stimulate Social - Economic welfare of Wanjiku at the ward level, " she added.

The outspoken legislator went on to call for the disbandment of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), saying that, unlike Aukot's initiative which was aimed at reducing the burden of representation, the BBI was keen on creating leadership positions for individuals.

Dr Aukot's initiative caught Kenyans by surprise as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that it had garnered the requisite signatures.

It has ignited tremendous debate among Kenyans and continues to elicit mixed reactions from politicians.

ODM leader Raila Odinga asked Kenyans to ignore Aukot's initiative and wait for the BBI committee to release its report.
