A suspect was arraigned in a Kisumu court on Monday for allegedly inciting the public and abducting a police officer.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Julius Ng'arng'ar, Gordon Ochieng was accused of planning to harm Sergeant Godfrey Itur after abducting him on November 30 within Kisumu town.
"Ochieng kidnapped Godfrey Itur in order that Itur and planned to subject him to grievous harm," the court papers read.
On the second count, Ochieng is accused of resisting arrest, inciting residents of the Jua Kali area in Kisumu town against the police officer and damaging a police vehicle.
He is reported to have directed members of the public to be violent to the police officers, and caused chaos along the Kisumu-Kakamega road by parking his car at the centre of the road.
"With others not before the court willfully and unlawfully damaged a white Toyota land cruiser white in colour, the property of the National Police Service," the court papers added.
Ochieng, nonetheless, denied the charges levelled against him. He was consequently freed on Sh100, 000 bond.
He will appear in court for the mention of the case on December 6. The case will be heard on January 9, 2020.
