Citizen TV's management on Monday announced the cancellation of popular teen show Machachari which has been airing for over ten years.
The programme was cancelled following persistent pressure from the audience due to the age of the characters.
According to the broadcaster, the programme had outlived its relevance since many of its actors had hit the legal age.
Citizen TV announced that Machachari will be replaced by Johari. Johari's plotline revolves around kids having fun around Mt Kenya.
"We have got a chance to watch this Friday's show of Machachari. It has been a gradual, deliberate ending of a show strategically so that we introduce new content in the target audience of kids,” said Citizen TV’s Production Manager Stanley Ngige.
"We started with Baha's crew, they are now seniors. We needed to create a room to have a new show just the way we began Machachari 13 years ago. It comes to an end this Friday conclusively and Johari replaces it," he added as quoted by Kenyans.co.ke.
Kenyans on Twitter lauded the station over the move while others called for the cancellation of other programmes that have been airing for over ten years.
Some of the programmes which viewers want to be cancelled include Papa Shirandula, Inspekta Mwala and Tahidi High.
"I started watching Papa Shirandula, Tahidi High, Inspekta Mwala & Machachari when I was in high school. They don't excite me anymore and I stopped watching them...I have also heard many folks saying that the shows are very boring. Kindly look for other new shows @citizentvkenya," wrote Muhammad Onyango.
Hellen Opindi Wrote, "@citizentvkenya your new program changes is pleasing. Just do away with programs that are 10yrs. Who still watches Papa Shirandula? Machachari kids have overgrown, give us something new."
"Machachari walishaa kua vichaarichari.....Tahidi High walidrop out," wrote Symon Njoroge.
